James Dale Architects and 2×2 Architects where appointed for a full refurbishment and extension of a 1970s, end of terrace townhouse located in Sevenoaks, Kent. The client’s brief was to reimagine the existing property, to deliver a renovation and extension that increased the ground floor living space and create an additional bedroom, bathroom and study.
An existing 1980s two-story extension follows the boundary line, which has been extended to the rear with a timber framed pavilion type glazed extension offering views into the large garden which surrounds the property to create a light filled warm and welcoming family living space containing a new kitchen, pantry, dining and seating space opening onto a rear terrace.
The existing ground floor garage has been converted to provide a new shower room, music room and store, while the orientation of the staircase has been flipped to allow an improved flow to the home. On the first floor the layout has been adjusted to house a new family living room, home office and a master suite in the partially extended side extension accessed via a new double height gallery space.
The second floor has been re planned to accommodate 2 equal sized bedrooms and a family bathroom which repurposed the original bathroom suite from the original house. The top floor also provides new access to an external roof terrace located on the roof of the side extension.
Externally the new extension is an expressed timber frame and has been finished with encaustic tiles and accoya timber cladding while internally a light sage green pallet runs through the refurbished elements of the house.
